About MissyJulia

MissyJulia Ltd is a small UK family business making personalised wooden plaques. Weddings, christenings, anniversaries, retirement signs, and the family occasions that deserve something better than a printed card. We've been at it for over a decade and have made several thousand pieces in that time.

How it started

The first plaque was a wedding gift. The second was a christening present from a friend. By the time we were making a dozen a week for friends of friends, it had stopped being a hobby and started being a small business. We registered the company, set up a proper workshop, and worked out the slow side of the craft: the painting, the lettering, the right finish for wood that's going to live on someone's wall for the next thirty years.

The workshop

Everything we sell is made in a small UK workshop. The basic process for any plaque looks like this: choose the wood (plywood, MDF, or a solid hardwood depending on the design), cut it to size, sand it smooth on both faces and the edges, prime if needed, paint the base colour, hand-letter or hand-decorate the design, finish with a protective coat, pack for delivery. None of that is fast. A typical wedding sign takes two to three hours of actual work spread across several days as paint layers dry.

Why made to order

Almost every piece we sell is personalised: a couple's names, a date, a child's name, a verse, a family quote. Making to order is the natural fit. We don't keep stock for anything except a small range of ready-made nursery designs on Amazon UK. The handmade route means we can tweak the lettering, swap the colour palette, adjust the size to fit the space you have, and reject pieces that don't work before we send them out.

The Amazon listings

If you find MissyJulia plaques on Amazon UK, those are the few ready-made designs we keep in stock. Usually wedding aisle signs with common wording (e.g., "Bride this way") and family-name plaques in popular styles. Anything you'd like customised is better ordered directly here, where the price is slightly lower and we have more room to vary the design.

Pieces we love making

Plaques that mark a specific moment. A first-anniversary keepsake with the year on it. A christening plaque with a scripture verse the family has had read at every christening for three generations. A "Welcome to the [Surname]s" plaque for someone's new house. A retirement sign that quietly references the last project the person worked on. The pieces with personal context are the ones we put the most care into, and the ones we hear back about most often.
